Over the past couple of months I've been working on a commission to photograph wildlife for the Royal Botanic Gardens of Scotland. I have had some rewarding encounters with a variety of different animals. Photographing a Grey Heron fishing for frogs barely five metres away from me without using a hide was something I thought would be impossible, but at the Botanics a great deal of the wildlife seems to be far less timid than elsewhere. I'm not a fan of the North American Grey Squirrel which was introduced to Britain with disastrous consequences for our native reds around a hundred years ago. Nonetheless I have managed to make some unusual and creative photographs of them. The commissioned project is still ongoing and will probably take me into the autumn.
Please note. Although I made these images, they are copyright of the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh and are reproduced here with their kind permission.
